Promotional Competition.
Generally, promotional competitions (‘promos’) are conducted by corporate bodies whose primary object is not lottery. Promos are organised to reward customer loyalty to a brand and/or to create awareness for products and services.
Corporate bodies are required to obtain a licence for qualifying promotional competitions in Lagos State. A promotional competition will qualify where it includes any game, scheme, arrangement, system, plan or device which requires subscription for distributing prizes by lot or chance. Subscription here means the payment, delivery of any money, goods, articles, matter or thing including any ticket, coupon or entry form for the right to compete in the promo.
The following promotional competitions are exempted from obtaining licence:
i. Instant wins promos
ii. Promos that require no subscription
iii. Promos that do not involve draws
The distinction between qualifying and exempted promos is the ‘element of chance’ involved in the lottery.
Revenue generated from promotional competitions is applied to good casues project in the following sectors- Educational, Infrastructural, Environmental, Social & Health- as stipulated by the Lotteries Law.
